CMC Board Director and Chair Arlen Orchard and SMUD CEO and General Manager Paul Lau will discuss SMUD’s 2030 Zero Carbon Plan (Plan). The Plan is a flexible pathway to eliminate carbon emissions from SMUD’s power supply by 2030, the most ambitious goal of any large utility in the country.

The Plan demonstrates SMUD’s commitment to finding innovative ways to reach its zero-carbon goal while maintaining its class reliability and low rates, which are among the lowest in California. The Plan reaches far beyond carbon, bringing clean air, public health, transportation, workforce development and inclusive economic development benefits to communities across the Sacramento region. Partnerships are a cornerstone of SMUD’s plan as the utility works with its customers, communities, cities, counties, the legislature, policymakers, the private sector, venture capitalists and more to engage in decarbonization, spur investment in our region and maximize benefits for all.

Arlen and Paul will discuss the role that electrification of transportation will play in SMUD’s plan and the role that the CMC plays in helping SMUD reach its goal.
