The CMC Urges Swift Confirmation of Ann Carlson as NHTSA Administrator

Statement on behalf of Mark R. Rosekind, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer, California Mobility Center and former NHTSA Administrator

Sacramento, CA - February 14, 2023: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has a critical life-saving mission, and its efforts are enhanced by a strong, Senate-confirmed leader. President Biden has nominated Ann Carlson to be the Administrator of NHTSA and the CMC urges the Senate to pursue a swift confirmation on behalf of the nation and the Agency. Ann Carlson is the current Acting NHTSA Administrator and former NHTSA Chief Counsel, who has already demonstrated the expertise and engaged leadership that will effectively address the significant challenges and opportunities that confront the Agency.

Ann Carlson brings tremendous knowledge and experience to NHTSA and has already shown her ability to successfully tackle the hard issues that the Agency faces daily. The ongoing tragic loss of life on our roadways with the new possibilities created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law create unique opportunities to make truly lasting changes in road safety. A swift confirmation will allow Ann Carlson to pursue actions that will make all of us safer on our roadways.
